Tiny Tim

For A Christmas Carol by Pulp Rocket Theatre

Tiny Tim has a mechanised head with an up and down tilt and a side to side range. His arms are string joints with hinged elbows, and his hips are elasticated for flexibility with hinged knee joints.

He is finished with a brown paper skin and dry brushed for a pale but rough look. His hair is dyed mop head fibers with twine mixed in.

Directed and designed by Sam Hill

Tiny Tim was made for Pulp Rocket Theatre’s site specific adaptation of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Sadly the show was postponed in 2021 due to the pandemic but it’s in the works for Christmas 2022.

Tiny Tim is made using the same internal structure as the puppet in The Castle with his own personalised exterior in line with the design for the new play.

The puppets costume is made from recycled and reclaimed materials and natural fibres which I distressed to reflect the earthy grime of poverty in the Victorian era.

The puppet is controlled with one hand on the back handle and the puppeteers thumb manipulating the head side to side and up and down.

Both of Tim’s hands have rods to keep the fingers of the puppeteer away from his small hands and to make manipulation easier. The left hand has a rotating rod to hip with the main puppeteers ability to move the hand and arm since they are also manipulating the head simultaneously.
